Sarah L. Carter, a native of Jacksonville, FL, is the independent owner of Sarah L. Carter’s Funeral Home, Inc. located at 2212 Emerson Street in Jacksonville, FL 32207. She has over twenty five years of service and experience in the funeral industry. She is well versed in all aspects of the mortuary industry. Ms. Carter began her career as a secretary for Walter L. Dorman’s Funeral Home in 1982. During her tenure as a secretary, she attended Miami Dade College and received an Associates Degree in Mortuary Science. She also has a Bachelors Degree in Biblical Studies. After the demise of her predecessor and mentor, Mr. Walter L. Dorman, she ventured out and started her own funeral business. Sarah has been recognized by Mayor John Peyton as the first African American woman in the state of Florida to open a funeral home from start up and has marked her 5th year in the business as an independent owner. She also has a centralized embalming facility and funeral home at a 2nd location in North Jacksonville. In addition to being a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer, she’s a Licensed Life Insurance Agent, Pre-Need Counselor, Notary Republic and a State Sub-Register in the State of Florida. Sarah maintains membership with the NFDA (National Funeral Directors Association), Independent Funeral Directors Association, and the local First Coast Mortician’s Association past president and current vice president. She is the mother of 1 son, 2 daughters, and has 4 grandchildren.

For the past 19 years Sarah Carter has been a faithful member of Southside Church of God in Christ where she has served as the past president of the Hospitality Committee and as a youth Sunday School Teacher. She’s currently the President of the Business and Professional Ministry and actively serves on the Special Usher Board. Ms. Carter’s faith is in God; her motto is: “with God all things are possible; all you got to do is believe”. She has leaned on her faith and motto while raising her children as a single parent, overcoming adversity, completing college, and becoming a successful business woman.

As a business owner, Sarah L. Carter, LFD, has established a high-level of dedication, integrity, quality, and commitment to serving families and communities (with compassion, consideration, kindness, and professionalism) during the most difficult times in their lives. She affectionately shares words of encouragement, a positive outlook, peaceful spirit and a smiling face. One of her clients expressed it best,
