Welcome to the memorial page for

Annie Mae Jenkins

February 8, 1920 ~ September 18, 2018 (age 98) 98 Years Old

Annie Mae Jenkins was born on February 8, 1920 in Sampson City, Florida to the late Rev. Thomas Jenkins and Surrena Jenkins. She attended Elementary and Secondary school in Sampson City, FL and Euclid High School in Deland, FL. She also completed courses work in Home Economics at Stanton Vocational in Jacksonville, FL.

Annie Mae was converted at an early age and affiliated herself with Wayman Chapel A.M.E. Church in Jacksonville, FL in 1945. She served as a Sunday school teacher for the Beginners class, and she made sure students knew the Catechism before graduating to the Primary class. She was a member of the Choir, President of the Pastor’s Aid Board, Do What I Can Club, and the Women’s Missionary Society. She enjoyed serving the Lord while at Wayman, and continued her service after moving to Orlando faithfully until ill health.

Annie Mae was a loving mother and a true friend to many. She worked hard all of her life and guided, mentored, encouraged and uplifted as many as she could along her journey. She was employed as a cook for many years at Halls Sanatorium and Assumption Catholic School, both on Atlantic Boulevard; and as a caregiver for Bess Stein.

After retiring, she remained active at her church, continuing to serve in any capacity, and soon was named the oldest member of Wayman. She loved watching baseball, basketball and football (Go Jaguars!) games on television.

Preceding her in death was her father, Rev. Thomas Jenkins; mother, Surrena Jenkins; son, Louis Jenkins; grand-daughter, Angela Jenkins; brothers, Frank Jenkins, Willie Jenkins, James Jenkins, Alphonso Jenkins and Rufus Jenkins, Jr.; and sisters, Hallie Elliott and Gussie Fisher.

On September 18, 2018, Annie Mae Jenkins stepped into glory. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted son, Tony Jenkins of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Louis Jenkins, Jr. and Dionne Nichelle Rhodes; daughter-in-law, Angela Jenkins; former daughter-in-law, Brenda Jenkins all of Savannah, GA); caregiver, Valarie Byrd of Orlando, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
