Bessie Mae Sapp Redding was born to the late Walter and Sadie Cornelia Peters Sapp on February 27, 1918 in Parrott, Georgia. She was the 4th children. She had to drop out of school in the 8th grade to help take care of her younger siblings.
She met John Redding, fell in love and they later married on December 27, 1936. They moved to Philadelphia in 1946 where they lived on 5543 Ardleigh Street until moving to Florida in 2004. Upon moving to Philly, she was employed at Quarter Master Corp (Military Clothing) and the Pincus Brother (Men’s Clothing) till her retirement in 1980. She was an accomplished seamstress who created and designed her own cloths.
Her hobbies were, singing, sewing and watching her favorite sport teams. Don’t forget she loved spending time with her family. Bessie attended the Pentecostal Churches until moving to West Palm Beach. She then attended House of God International Ministries until moving to Jacksonville.
Bessie transitioned on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 10:40am at Life Care Assisted Living center. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Redding; parents, Walter and Sadie Sapp; brothers, Adolphus (Azzie Lee), Tally (Alma), Walter (Frankie), Robert, Charles and Chester; sisters, Sarah Johnson, Redessa Stewart (Relford), Georgia Tatum (Al), Lucy Miller (Al) and Grace Henry (George); sisters-in-law, Essie Pullum (Du) and Rosa Sapp.
She leaves behind, her only surviving brother, Reuben Sapp; daughter and son in-law, Cheryl and Terry Carn; three grandchildren, LaTiya Pullum, Christopher Smith and Alexander Smith (Tahrin); 10 great grands; 1 great great grand; special nieces, Shirley Hawk (Bill), Doris Sulton (Thomas), Robyn Moultrie (Lonnie), Marilyn Evans, Alison Miller, Tiara Worrell and Shelia Robinson; friend, Mary Fernell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
