Darlene Brister Jackson

Darlene Curtis was born to the loving and wonderful Christian parentage of Floyd Curtis and Gladys Myzello Curtis on a beautiful snowflake filled day, September 23, 1951 in Denver, Colorado. Just as God our heavenly Father uniquely and divinely made each snowflake so he formed and made Darlene.

A beautiful woman, on the outside and on the inside that loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with all her heart, soul, mind and strength. Her famous voicemail stated “Today is the first day of the rest of your life. So why not live it for Jesus Christ. You know He’s coming soon, so you better get ready!” I believe that’s the message for anyone here today who hasn’t made that decision yet.

Darlene was born and reared in Denver, Colorado. She earned her diploma and graduated from East High School in the spring of May 1969. She had a set of vocal pipes that would fill the room with heavenly soprano power songs of Zion.

Mother always said happily, “Darlene was born with a microphone in her throat”. Darlene has blessed countless numbers of people singing “God Is”, Create in Me a Clean Heart” and “It’s in the Book”. Just to name a few of her famous songs she lead on while singing with her family, “The Anointed New Creation Singers”. Her youngest son, Xavier played the trumpet and her eldest son, Leland played the drums. Her mother Gladys would sing tenor and occasionally play the harmonica or bass guitar. Her eldest sister, Diane sand second soprano and her middle sister Sandra sang soprano as well. While her youngest sister, Essie played the piano and sang alto.

Darlene also traveled and sang on a plethora of stages including at the Morris Cerullo School of Ministry and conferences in San Diego, California, with the late great Archie Dennis and the late great Reverend AA Allen, and camp meetings in Miracle Valley, Arizona with song leader Reverend Gene Martin. She ministered on stage at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo, Colorado for over 10 years and sand at the Capitol Hill United neighbors people fair at the Civic Center in Denver, Colorado. She also sung at the Denver Black Arts Festival on the Cosmo Harris Gospel Stage at the Denver City Park as well as the Juneteenth Stage in Five Points in Denver, Colorado.

Darlene was an extremely hard worker and a single parent most of the time. She raised her two son, Leland and Xavier and was very proud of them! Her job with AT&T as a long-distance operator for over 20 years brought her to Jacksonville, Florida. She lived in Florida and became a member of Paxon Revival Center Church under the leadership of Pastor Steve and Willene Dobbs. She met and married her husband of three years, Eugene Jackson in the mass ceremonial wedding by Pastor Steve Dobbs in Jacksonville.

Darlene also became a faithful member of Trumpet in Zion in Jacksonville under the leadership of Apostle Darryl G. McCoy Sr. and Elect Lady Dorothy McCoy whom she was very fond of and built great friendship with.  While in Florida she continued to sing in the churches and with her son Xavier who faithfully stayed by his mother’s side. He also moved to Florida when his mother came and they ministered in the nursing homes being a blessing and serving in the church ministries.

The lovely, unique and divinely made by God Darlene Bister- Jackson leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Eugene Jackson; her sons, Xavier Bryce McCall (Chanda) and Leland Eugene McKie (Darlene); grandchildren, Xavionne, Xavionna, Zakira, Zachariah, Joshua, Ezekiel, Isaiah and Mia; her big brother, James Curtis; her eldest sister, Diane Curtis; her younger sister, Sandra Curtis; her baby sister, Minister Essie Curtis-Rockwell; nieces and nephews, Yvonne (Greg), Andrea, Aeolian, Alacia, Avalene, Aminah, Abraham, Solomon, Isaac and Sarobi; great niece, Gabriella Jones; uncle and aunt, Aaron and Louise Radford; cousins, Donna, Karen, Hilliard and Lana Wilson;  and also a holy host of numerous more aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, beloved pastors, ministers, prayer warriors around the world that kept her lifted up in prayer.
