Edward Phillip Long, Sr. was born on March 17, 1942 to the late Charlie W. and Eliza E. Long. He was preceded in death by his wife, Iola Long; sisters, Inez Long, Frances Jenkins, Shirley Parnell; and his brother, Charles Long, Jr. He was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 12, 2019. He was a member of Southside Church of God in Christ where he received Christ at an early age.
Edward attended Douglas Anderson High School and grew up in the Southside community. He worked as a truck driver for Englewood Electric for over 43 years until his retirement. He was a well-known musician and played bass and lead guitar for many groups in the city.
Edward was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was known by "Milk Baby" in his early years and loved making people laugh by telling funny jokes. He also loved watching the Young and the Restless and other soap operas during his lunch breaks. He was known to sit in the front yard drinking coffee and playing his guitars.
Edward leaves his precious memories to three sons, Edward Long, Jr. (Keenan), Timothy Long and David Long; grandchildren, Tawyna Shoemake (Adrian), Desmond Long, Brandon Long, Ciaira Long, Terell Long and Nathan Long; a very special nephew, Frank Jenkins; two special nieces, Sonya Young and Paula Smith; a devoted friend, Geneva Sapp; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
