Elder Elizabeth B. Peterson was born to the late Isaiah and Elizabeth Marion Brown on June 30, 1926 in Millen, Georgia. She attended the local public schools in Millen, GA where she graduated high school as valedictorian. She was united in Holy Matrimony for 51 years to Thomas Peterson, Sr. They moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1948 and raised eight children together. She retired from the Duval County Public School system following 30 years of service as a teaching paraprofessional.
During her humble beginnings, Elizabeth worked as a baker’s assistant at Cinotti’s and Stunker’s bakeries. She was then called to work with the children of the Duval County Public School system. During her tenure at Eugene J. Butler Middle School, she received numerous accolades and awards due to her artistic work and dedication to her students.
After moving to Jacksonville during her earlier years, she was a prayer warrior for the 12th Hour Prayer Band and a faithful member of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church. Answering God’s call, she became a member of Solid Rock Deliverance Church, one of the pioneers who walked with founder, the late Bishop John E. Shingles and served for over 40 years as a missionary, evangelist and elder. As Mother of the Church, she nurtured, guided and taught everyone how to live holy in word and deed and was faithful until death. During her journey, Elizabeth was faithful to her community and served through feeding the poor, visiting the sick and homebound, those in need of healing, and encouraging young people to seek higher education.
Elder Peterson obediently accepted the will of her Heavenly Father and departed this life on December 26, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Peterson, Sr.; son, William D. Peterson Sr.; and grandchild, Crystal Elizabeth Peterson.
