Erik Deandre Smart

November 10, 1982 ~ October 13, 2018 (age 35) 35 Years Old

Erik DeAndre Smart was born on November 10, 1982 in Savannah, Georgia to David and Etta Smart. On August 14, 2010, Erik married the love of his life, Candace LaMae Smart, to this union God blessed them with Master Derrick Jaylen Smart on July 13, 2011.

Many lives were heartbroken on Saturday, October 13, 2018, as Erik and his son Derrick were tragically taken on a father-son fishing outing. Erik was raised at Northside Church of God in Springfield, Georgia, he attended Groves High School where he excelled on the basketball, football and track teams, graduating in 2001. Erik often reflected on his deceased grandparents, Ruth and Jesse McCarr, and Jesse Lee Smart, who played a major role in making Erik the wonderful man he became.

After high school Erik entered the United Sates Navy where he served honorably for 8 years. Erik was a Combat Medic attached to the Marine Corps and served 3 tours in Afghanistan/Iraq. He was also stationed at the Naval Hospitals in Beaufort, South Carolina, NAS in Jacksonville, Florida and Marine Corps Space in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Erik was currently employed as a Manager at LabCorp on St. Johns Bluff.

Left to cherish Erik’s memories, is his loving and devoted wife and friend, Candace LaMae Smart; parents, David and Etta Smart; grandmother, Katy Mae Smart; children, DreShawn Smart, DeAndre Smart, Khamari Smart and Kaydian Lazard; brothers, Jordan Smart, David Griffin and Bradley Griffin; sister, Shaken Griffin; aunts, Valerie Thompson and Jackie Kennedy (Anthony); uncles, Danny Smart and Tom Smart (Kim); mother-in-law, Janice Dorn; brother-in-law, Eugene E. Dorn, III; sister-in-law, Gina LaKristin Jenkins (Elijah); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.
