Evelyn Isabelle Jenkins

January 23, 1935 ~ May 1, 2018 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Evelyn ‘Tiny’ Isabelle Madison Jenkins, 83, passed away peacefully at home May 1, 2018. Evelyn was born to the late Ellis and Daisy Madison in Callahan (Nassau) Florida where she also was raised. She attended Callahan Community School, Pine Forest High School. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in West Palm Beach. Evelyn was an avid basketball player, both in Callahan and West Palm.

Evelyn received salvation at an early age and was an active young member at Greater Mt. Pleasant Baptist Missionary Church until joining Deacon Oscar S. Jenkins in marriage, relocating to New York, New York in 1956. While in New York, she worked as a retail employee with Saks Fifth Avenue until her retirement.

Evelyn was a member and Deaconess at Victory Baptist Church, Bronx, New York, under the leadership of Rev. Randolph Thompson, Jr.  Upon retiring and relocating back to Callahan, she reconnected with her home church, Greater Mt. Pleasant and continued her role as Deaconess.

Evelyn enjoyed gardening, decorating for the holidays and baking her famous fruit cakes.  She is known as the trailblazer for paving the way to higher education as many of her nieces and nephews resided with her in New York City to obtain jobs.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Oscar S. Jenkins; her grand-baby “Alimi” and her nine siblings, of which she was the youngest.

She is survived by her two daughters, Aunita Wilson and Minister Alicia Middleton (Rev. Kevin); five grandchildren, Earle Jerreau (Liz), Marlon Wilson, Isaiah Wilson, Simon Jenkins and Alema Jenkins; two great-grandsons, Eiden Wilson and Emerson Wilson; a sister-in-law, Lula Foster; special nieces, Betty Holland and Dr. Fredeva Nelson; nephew, Damien Long; cousins, William Pratt, Barbara Pratt and Cheryl Jackson; best friend, Maybelle McGriff; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
