Geraldine Akodu

March 8, 1941 ~ November 24, 2018 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Geraldine “Geri” Akodu, transitioned home Saturday the 24th of November in Jacksonville, Florida. “Gammy" as she liked to be called by her grandchildren, great grandchildren and family friends was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend.

Born and raised in Miami, Florida, the delightful daughter of late Acomie and Josephine (Baker) Phillips, Geri was one of nine (9) close-knit ardent children. She graduated top of her class at age sixteen from Miami Northwestern Senior High School in 1957. Ensuing high school, she began her professional career as a phlebotomist and worked with various phlebotomy labs throughout southeast Florida.

Subsequent to having reared her four (4) children, she decided to pursue her truest passion for nursing and continued her education at Southeastern Technical Institute in Vidalia, Georgia from which she received her Practical Nursing degree in 1996. Attributable to her unrelenting fervor for learning and personal evolution, she also held degrees in Cosmetology (c. 1999) and Medical Insurance Billing and Coding (c. 2007).

Geri loved dancing, bowling, traveling, good food, watching classic westerns, serving in her church and most importantly supporting and encouraging others. She delivered the best of hugs with a wonderful smile and deportment that would energize any room. She was a phenomenal woman that was incredibly loved, is missed, and will always be cherished.

She is survived by her children, Harold Phillips (T-Pring), Kimberly Sanders, Kenneth Akodu (Angela), Joye Officer (Dwight), and Robert Butler, Jr.; grandchildren, Dominique Johnson, Keiki Daise (Eric), Travis Phillips, Kenneth “KJ” Akodu Jr., Shamonte Franklin, Terrance “Tre” Akodu, Jasmine Norales, Justin Norales, Myah Akodu, India Phillips, Nicholas Phillips and Jaheir Officer; great-grandchildren, Aniya Butler, Khapai Johnson, Christian Walker, Jacayla Phillips, and Brooklyn Daise; siblings, Eudean Williamson, Izean Williams Idean Phillips, Mary Joyce Williams (Willie); and a host of beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
