After a beautiful and full life Mrs. Helen Wanton peacefully departed this life on the evening of January 27, 2018. She was elevated from this transition to her eternal home.
Helen affectionately known as “Nanny” by her grandchildren and everyone else that came in contact with her. She was born in Greensville, Florida to the late John L. Evans and Mildred Evans.
Later on, in life she met the late George Wanton Sr. and was united in Holy Matrimony. Helen was a member of Grater Zion Grove Baptist Church, Overseer W. O. Tucker. Three brothers, Jimmie Evans, Allen Evans and John Evans, Jr.; and one sister, Mildred Johnson preceded her in death.
Our mom was a special person; well loved and known throughout numerous communities because she touched so many lifes. The footprints of her life will be cherished and missed by those she leaves behind, her children, Anthony Arnold, Velma Gist (Earle, Sr.), Ira Evans (Corrine), Dorothy West (Edward, Sr.), Bernadette Smith (Kittom, Jr.), Bertina Ingram, George Ector (Bertha), Josephine Jones, George Wanton, Jr. (Stephanie), Ronald Wanton, Joan Britt (Christopher), Rev. Vanessa Wallace of Atlanta, GA, Garriam Washington (William), Gladys Watts, Lorraine Early, Anita Chandler (Earl), Willard Edwards, Brenda Brunson, Craig Edwards (Paula), Vernon Edwards (Phylis) (preceded her in death), Jonette Lewis (Tony), Darrell Edwards, Amos Harvey, Sr. and Jason Irvine; sister-in-law, Louise Steele; aunt, Hattie Smith; brother, Robert Evans (Sandy); sisters, Johnnie Mae King (Willie), Rose Harrison of Fort Pierce, FL, Ruby Jefferson of Peterburgs, VA, Floria Coger of Monticello, FL, Josie Bell Stokes of West Palm Beach, FL; best friend, Margaret Moore; godsons, Ronnie Wilson and Christopher Grubbs; 62 grandchildren; 68 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and a host of many nieces, nephews and many friends.
