Joanna Sophia Jones

Joanna Sophia Jones, age 35, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2019, from complications of lupus.  Joanna was born to the late Sandra Daniels on March 3, 1984.  After the death of her mother, Joanna and two of her siblings were raised by her grandparents, Rev. Thomas Jones and the late Sister Doretha Jones. 

Joanna attended William Raines High School and participated in the choir. She had an angelic voice and sang in the choir at school and St. Timothy Baptist Prayer House throughout her childhood. Joanna’s children, A’Lexus, Jomelo, and Keyontea, were her passion and delight. Despite her lupus diagnosis, she ensured that her children experienced the best life possible. Joanna did not allow lupus to take away her identity; instead, she was determined to live out her life to its fullness. She continued her lupus journey with confidence and faith. She always cared for her children and others regardless of her pain, including helping with the care for her grandfather after her grandmother's death.

She will be remembered for her sweetness, joking around, zest for life, free spirit, colorful styles, and candid truth.

Joanna is survived by her three children, A’Lexus, Jomelo, and Keyontea; three siblings, Carlvay Jones (Tanisha), Lester Jones, and Ronnie Jones; her grandfather, Rev. Thomas Jones; aunts, Emily Daniels, Veronica Middleton, Chiquita Daniels, Charlotte Daniels, Carletha Brinson (Daniel), and Novice Hester (George); uncles, Joel Williams, Michael Daniels, Casey Campbell, Theodore Campbell, Thomas Jones (Joann), Julius Jones (Marcia), Marlow Jones (Elaine), and Timothy Jones (Aretha); special cousins, Kenisha Harris (Michael), Vanchelle Daniels, Nichole Funderburg (Drew), and Jartshire Garrett (John); her beloved best friend, Sandrener Williams; godson, Kissly Sanon, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and several other loving relatives and close friends.
