Shirley Davis Obituary

Shirley Ann Davis was born on September 4, 1949 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Edward S. Baker and Eloise Segro Baker, both of whom preceded her in death. She was married to the late AC Lockett and from that union they had three children. She married her present husband, Acie Davis, Jr. on June 9, 1989 and they remained married until her demise. Also, Shirley has four siblings, Gloria J. Black (Richard), Earl S. Baker (Juanita), Van A. Baker (Marchelle) and Yvonne C. Baker.

Shirley attended Mary McCloud Bethune Elementary School, James Weldon Johnson Middle School and New Stanton High School all in Jacksonville, Florida. Shirley received Christ at eight years of age and joined Abyssinia Missionary Baptist Church in 1957 where she was a faithful member until her death.

Shirley worked at Kerr McGee Industrial Company for a short period of time before becoming a cook for the Duval County School Board working in several different schools until her retirement in 2012. She was known for her culinary skills and credited her mother, the late Eloise Baker, for her culinary talents.

Shirley took great pride in being a loving mother, and a caring grandmother. She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband, Acie Davis, Jr.; three children, Anthony Lockett, Jr. (Lawanna), Grailing Lockett and Tarisha Lockett White; two step-children, Minister Carol Davis Copeland (Dexter) and Adrian Davis; ten grandchildren, Anthony Lockett, III, Deshaun Lockett, Teshara Lockett, Chivalos Lockett, Destiny Bostic, Kennetria Williams, Aniyah Williams, Lavon White, Jr., Myles White and Mikayla Hunter; fourteen- great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
