Willie Fitzpatrick CW03 USN Ret. affectionately known to his family and friends as Billy was born on February 12, 1933 to Reverend Charles and Magnolia Fitzpatrick in Cotton Plant, Arkansas, one of twelve children.
Mr. Fitzpatrick moved with his family as a young toddler on July 4, 1936 to Union City, Tennessee where he attended local schools. He went on to attend Miles College where he met his beautiful bride Zelma Winfield Fitzpatrick. He often told the story of how he was tutoring her in math but won her heart. Upon marrying his bride Billy joined the United States Navy and served his country for 22 years retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 in Jacksonville, Florida.
Billy had a love for music that was inherited from his music teacher mom. He was an anointed piano and organ player as well as a tenor psalmist. When his children would ask him why he did not have a middle name, he responded that his parents had so many children that he guess that when he was born they had run out of middle names.
Mr. Fitzpatrick was an active member of Woodlawn Presbyterian Church who served in the Male Chorus, Chancel Choir, Men of Woodlawn and Deacon Board until his health failed.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Zelma Winfield Fitzpatrick; son, Blair Fitzpatrick; granddaughter, Ja’Nai Trapp; parents, Rev. Charles and Magnolia Fitzpatrick; siblings, Charles Fitzpatrick, Jerome Fitzpatrick, Rosetta Hardwick, Frances Morris, Elnora Morgan, Ernestine Clark and Patterson Fitzpatrick.
Billy leaves to cherish his memory, six children, Wilton Fitzpatrick (Alfreda), Stanley Fitzpatrick (Sharleen), Janet Trapp, Jacqueline Fitzpatrick, John Fitzpatrick (Gloria) and Debra Jordan (Randall); ten grandchildren, Katrina Dames (Jamey), Janine Fitzpatrick, Jocelyn Gaffney, Jason Trapp (Dr. Marla), Brian Fitzpatrick (Vanessa), Jaleesa Trapp, Jeremy Trapp (Kayla), Jessica Kitchen, Janai Jordan and Cicely White (Errol); 10 great grandchildren, Jada Sullivan, Brian Fitzpatrick, Jr., Jason Micah Trapp, Jari Trapp, Jaden Dames, Jordan Dames, Joseph Dames, Jamey Dames, Jr., Jade Trapp and Errol White, Jr.; and a host of other relatives, church family and friends.
