Alberta C. Jones was born April 20, 1937, to Johnie Ernest and Callie Ezell Crumbley, in Campbell Alabama. She attended the local schools of Duval County graduating from New Stanton Senior High class of 1956. She continued education at Old Stanton Vocational School where she received a certificate as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Alberta worked as an LPN over 40 years with Baptist Medical Center. She was awarded Nurse of the Year in 1990 serving in the special care unit. After retiring she continued her medical services by volunteering as an LPN in adult services around the Jacksonville Community.
Alberta was a long-time member of the NAACP and marched for Civil Rights with Rutledge Pearson in the late 50’s and early 60’s. Like many of her generation she desired to build a better life for her younger siblings and their children. She often stood in the gap to help raise and care for her family.
As a child Alberta was baptized at Emanuel Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend S. L. Badger. As an adult she became a faithful member at Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church and later transferred her membership to Mt. Ararat Missionary Baptist Church, Inc. under Darrell Lewis Gilyard, Pastor.
Alberta hobbies included working in her garden, where she found peace. She ultimately became the matriarch of the family, she found great joy in supporting and instilling values, character and integrity in her siblings and many nieces and nephews that they live by to this day.
Alberta was preceded in death, by her father, Johnie Ernest Crumbley; mother, Callie Ezell Crumbley; brother, James E. Crumbley; and sister, Dorothy J. Idlett.
Alberta leaves to mourn her passing but to cherish her memories, her siblings: Johnnie Mae McKennon (Roy), Carrie Wells, Shirley Robinson, Bobby Crumbley (Francis), Perry Crumbley, Milton Crumbley, and Hariett Bailey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
