Anita Elizabeth Lawton-Way was born on September 8, 1953 in Jacksonville, Florida to Eugene Lawton and Elizabeth Lawton. She attended the local schools of Duval County graduating from Samuel W. Wolfson High School class of 1971. She furthered her education at Florida Community College of Jacksonville received her Associate Degree.
Anita enlisted in the United States Army where she retired after 23 years. She was an executive Chief Supervisor. She also worked part time at Sarah L. Carter’s Funeral Home, Inc. Her military affiliates include: Military RSVP-Military Retirees Association, Washington, DC; Disabled Veterans Association, St. Petersburg, FL; Arlington National Cemetery Association of Washington, DC; Color Guard/Honor Guard Retirees Association of Fort Maryland and 20744; and American Legion Post #244. Anita showed special interest in ALP#244, Post Chaplain, Acting Adjutant, LGT Vice and School Liaison. Her personal hobbies were Jazzacerise, Dancercise, Aerobics, Walking and bicycles.
U.S. Army Retired SSGT. Anita Elizabeth Lawton-Way slept away on Sunday, June 5, 2022 to join her parents, Eugene and Elizabeth Lawton; and brother, Ronnie Lawton.
Anita leaves to mourn her passing, but to cherish her memories, her twin sister, Vanita Lawton; brother, Eugene Lawton, Jr.; devoted niece, Bethany Lawton; one uncle, Clifford Lawton; devoted godmothers, Thelma Ray and Velma Fountain; church member big sister, Sister Eunice Kirkland; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
