Annie Mae Edwards

Annie Mae Edwards was born on April 16, 1928 in Jacksonville, Florida (Duval County) to the late Charlie Refore and Emma Foster Brown. She was one of sixteen children. Annie Mae was a widower to Johnny Edwards, Sr., whom she married on January 2, 1964.

Annie Mae was well known as Charlesetta, the original “Madea”. Charlesetta was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville Beach, Florida. She had a no-nonsense reputation. Etta said, “jump”, you ask, “how high?”.

Throughout her lively years, Charlesetta was devoted to her family. She always looked out for her sisters, made sure they were always taken care of. She loved to have a goodtime, you can always catch Charlesetta at the “600 Club” on Jacksonville Beach.

Charlesetta had a total of twelve children, but leaves behind seven, Laverne Edwards, Johnny Edwards, Jr., Johnette Edwards, Jeanette Edwards, Willie Lee Smith, Beville Smith and Mary Smith Hughes; two sisters, Victrolla Stubbs (Pig) and Ella Green (Pie); an abundance of grandchildren and great grandchildren; a special dedication, Robert M. Smith and Jaquan Albertie for always being by her side.

Charlesetta’s strong will and fiery spirit created countless memories in every person she came in contact with.
