We gather to celebrate the life of April Nicole Mitchell, who slept away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. Born on October 21, 1984 in Jacksonville, Florida, April was a loving daughter to Miss Darline Jones and an incredibly proud mother of her two daughters, Nakaya Jones and Marissa Jones. The bond they shared was unbreakable, filled with laughter, love, and countless memories. April was her daughters’ biggest cheerleader, always encouraging them as they navigated their journey into adulthood.
April’s passion for nurturing and supporting her daughter extended beyond family life. She kept them actively involved in dance teams and cheerleading, ensuring they had every opportunity to shine. As they grew, her pride in their achievements grew stronger, and she was excitedly anticipating the arrival of her first grandchild-a new chapter that would bring even more joy to her life.
A true animal lover, April had a special place in her heart for her beloved dog, Loyalti, who brought her endless companionship and happiness. April’s caring nature wasn’t just reserved for family; she had an innate ability to connect with others. This deep compassion led her to a fulfilling career in nursing, where she dedicated herself to caring for the elderly. Her work at Palm Garden Nursing Home and private families reflected her genuine love for others and made a real difference in their lives.
April’s educational journey began at Hendricks Avenue Elementary, continued at Landon Middle School, and culminated at Samuel W. Wolfson High School, where she proudly captained the flags girls with the Wolfpack band. Her spirit of leadership and creativity shone brightly in everything she did.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Nakaya Jones and Marrissa Jones; her mother, Darline Jones; her brother, Josh Jones (Nika); her aunts, Michele Johnson (Reginald) and Beatrice Jones (Tim); her great-aunt, Gracie Baxter (Lincoln); and her nephew, Javari Jones. She is also remembered lovingly by a host of cousins including, Brittany King, Shantrell Johnson, Keia Johnson, Keith Ford, Wayne Ford, Jr., and Curtis Ford, other relatives and friends who will forever hold her memory close. April had many people she held close to her heart, her godmother, Odessa Drayton and best friends, Tianna Richardson, Tika Richardson and Vonceil Tomlin.
A lifelong member of West Jacksonville Baptist Church, April held her faith close to her heart and lived her life with love, grace and resilience.
April Nicole Mitchell will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her spirit and love will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
