Arecenia Smith Obituary

Arecenia Lugenia Smith was born on December 16, 1937, in Jacksonville, Florida where she was raised with her family of four siblings. Ms. Smith accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. She attended Way of The Cross Outreach Mission Church, Waycross, Georgia under the pastorate care of Mark Howard, Sr. She will be deeply missed by her loved ones after departing this life on Monday, March 2, 2026, at the age of 88.

Arecenia attended Jones College of Nursing in Jacksonville, Florida. She worked at Heath’s Brother Fish Market in Jacksonville. She was also a visiting nurse for over twenty years. She loved flower planting and gardening, but most of all, she loved helping people. She enjoyed spending time in church praising the Lord. Arecenia continued to attend church regularly until health no longer allowed her to do so.

Arecenia was preceded in death by her mother, Louise Robinson; her father, Leopold Smith, three brothers, Jerry McKenzie, Leonard McKenzie and Paul Ford; sister, Catherine Bailey; daughter, Sharon Newman; and two grandchildren, Angela Williams and Katrina Newman. She leaves to mourn and cherish her children, Theresa Davis (Richard), Melinda Honeywood, Windrick Smith, Sr. (Marie) and Tausha Howard (Pastor Mark); sister, Elvener Bailey; and host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

Arecenia would like to let you know that her work here is done. She received a call, an offer she could not refuse. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family and friends which she has not seen in a long time. Her new mission takes her to a wonderful place where she will be forever in the presence of the Lord.
