Obituary

Artis Mae Scott “Jackie” was born on November 17, 1941 to the late Artis and Henrietta Jackson in Wheeler County, Georgia. Shortly thereafter the family relocated to Brunswick, Georgia where Jackie remained until adulthood.

Jackie attended Risley High School in Brunswick, Georgia. She went on to attend and graduate from Savannah State College in Savannah, Georgia with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.

Jackie was joined together in Holy Matrimony to Marion J. Scott, Sr. in 1966 and enjoyed 57 years of a loving, God-centered marriage. She lovingly raised two sons, Marion J. Scott, Jr. and Phillip A. Scott whom both sons held a very special place in her heart. She enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a first-grade teacher at Highland Elementary School within the Duval County School System. She achieved many accolades including being honored as teacher of the year. After 30 years of educating the children of Highland Elementary she retired to spend some much-deserved time with her family. In addition to family time, Jackie LOVED to go fishing. She would go fishing every opportunity that became available to her. She also enjoyed vacationing especially taking cruises with her husband and friends.

Jackie also LOVED the Lord. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church starting under the leadership of Reverend Dr. E. E. Taylor. She served on the deaconess and mother’s board. She was a dedicated member of the Just Say No drug education program. She also faithfully served as a Sunday School Teacher, leader of the annual Vacation Bible School and other various programs under the leadership of her current pastor, Bishop John Eric Guns.

Jackie was a kind and loving person. She was patient, caring and she never failed to share her warm smile with everyone. She worked tirelessly to help anyone in need, including family or strangers alike up until her health began to fail her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Artis and Henrietta Jackson; and one nephew, Sheldon.

Jackie leaves to mourn a devoted husband of 57 years, Marion J. Scott, Sr.; devoted children, Marion Scott, Jr. (Michelle) and Phillip A. Scott (Tamela); two sisters, Delores Mathis (John) and Pamela Taylor; one brother, Vincent Jackson; one very dedicated sister-in-law, Naomi Rawls; five grandchildren, Monet Dacius (Peete), Moneq Scott, Damon Hardy, Demond Hardy and Phillip A. Scott, II; one great grandchild, Bryce J. Hamilton; one niece, Lorraine Marshall; three nephews, Tyrone Gilchrist, Vincent D. Jackson and David A. Jackson; a special goddaughter, Rachel McConago; a special godson, Ted Douglas; a very dear, life-long friend, Mrs. Anne McConago; and many other godchildren and two great nieces.
