Bernice Beasley Obituary

Mrs. Bernice Perry Beasley, who lived in Jacksonville, Florida was born August 30, 1935 in Hamilton County, Florida to the late Reverend W. J. and Mother Ethel Lee Pierce Perry. She grew up in Columbia County, Florida and in a family lifestyle that proclaimed their love for the LORD. Born into a godly Christian home, she learned her personal path of duty early in her life and followed it unselfishly and devoted until her death on Tuesday, February 11, 2021.

She received her early education in the schools of Columbia County, Florida. She was a graduate of Richardson High School class of 1953, Lake City, Florida. She was a tailor at Lee’s Dress Shop, Lake City, Florida. She moved to Duval County, Florida and pursued her governmental career for many years with the U. S. Naval Air Station Cecil Field and Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Florida retiring in 2002.

At an early age, Bernice attended Sisters Welcome Missionary Baptist Church, Lake City, Florida where she professed her faith in Jesus Christ. She served as a choir member, secretary and teacher of the Sunday School. Later in life, she became a dedicated member of Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church under the leadership of Pastor Marvin C. Zanders, II. She had a passion for music and praising God. She and other Christian friends shared their gifts of singing and praying faithfully to the residents of the convalescent homes weekly. She was an avid prayer warrior, member, and facilitator of the Mid-Day Prayer Ministry of Partners in Prayer Global Ministries, Inc., Pastor Angela A. Parker. Sister Beasley was always on a mission of intercession on family and friends’ behalf.

Bernice was married to John Beasley, who preceded her in death on April 29, 2009. The marriage was blessed with two children and together they raised three children. She devoted her life to her family and modeled Proverbs 31:10-31 as a wife and mother.

Bernice Perry Beasley was the second oldest child of 15 siblings and 5 of them preceded her in death, KC Perry, Willie Lee Perry, Martha L. Milligan, Overseer Pearlie M. Griffin and Essie M. Wilson. Her family and friends knew her affectionately as Bernice, Mama, Mrs. Beasley, Grandma, Mother Beasley, Sister Beasley and Aunt Bernice. Those who knew her will miss her spirit of love and her pleasant personality.

A beautiful life, a glad smile, helping hand, words of encouragement, strength, and knowledge will be cherished by her children, two honorable and loving sons, Craig Alonzo Foster “Tony” and John Yahya Shabazz; one unique and wonderful daughter, Thelicia “Lisa” Quintanilla (Nelson); six grandchildren, Evin Baskim (Drew), John H. Beasley, Nicole Quintanilla, Jamal Shabazz, Jordyn Quintanilla and Talib Shabazz; three great grandchildren; nine siblings, Minister Lillie M.
