Mrs. Bettye Lugene Hagans was a native of Jacksonville, Florida born on March 12, 1939 to the late Mrs. Amel German Jenkins and William Saxon German. She attended public schools in Jacksonville, Florida including Matthew Gilbert and Beach High School in Savannah, Georgia.
Bettye was joined in Holy Matrimony to Wallace M. Williams and from that union she had four daughters. She later joined in marriage to George H. Norman and from that union two sons were born.
Mrs. Hagans was a long-time Jacksonville Community resident and worked many years at Normans Fence Company. She was known for her fashionable dress style and her beautiful smile. She was a devoted and faithful member of Greater Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist under the leadership of Rev. Lindsey Brown. Mama, mother-in-law, grandma, sister, auntie and cousin, Sister Hagans was loved dearly and truly will be missed. She was affectionately known as “Mom Bettye”.
Bettye was preceded in death by her mother, Amel Stephens Jenkins; father, William Saxon German; step-father, William Nathaniel Jenkins, Sr.; husbands, John Hagans, Jr. and George H. Norman, Jr.; grandmother, Mattie Mae Stephens; grandfather, David Stephens, Sr.; brothers, Joel Jerome Jenkins, William “Billy” German, Jr. and Ernest Washington; sister, Verbena McCloud; aunts, Letha Maddrick and Marie Williams; uncles, David Stephens, Jr. and CJ Stephens.
Bettye leaves to cherish her memory, four loving daughters, Anita Jennings (Wilmon), Denise Johnson, Amel Williams and Walicia Robinson; two loving sons, Wayne Norman, Sr. (Deborah) and Wendle Norman (Latosha) all from Jacksonville, FL; sisters, Linda Daniels (Willie), Phyllis Warthen (Artis), Dorothea Nelson (Horace) and Karen Anderson (Kendall) all of Jacksonville, FL; brothers, William Nathaniel Jenkins, Jr. and Vernon Jenkins; aunt, Gloria Stephens; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and many life long friends.
