Bishop Dr. Desso Benjamin, Jr. was born on November 7, 1934 to Desso Benjamin, Sr. and Juanita Council (Joe Council, Sr.) in Jacksonville, Florida. He attended the local school until 9th grade.
Bishop Benjamin was united in Holy Matrimony to Mother Mildred Benjamin for sixty-eight years. He was the Founder and Overseer of Faith United Miracle Temple, initially known as Faith United Holiness Church founded in 1969. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was an avid golfer.
Bishop Dr. Desso Benjamin, Jr. slept away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, May 9, 2023. He was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Mildred Benjamin, affectionally known as “Mother Ben”; brothers, Earl Keys, Alphonso Benjamin, Gerald Council, and Joe Nathan Council, Jr. (Pop); and sisters, Louise Keys, Jeanette Freeman, and Joann Wilson.
Bishop Benjamin leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Vera Goodman (Jan), Linda Thompson, and Sheldon Benjamin; spiritual son, Horace Pender; spiritual daughter, Tanya Brooks; grandchildren, Adrienne, Christina, Janell, Chaquina, LaQuina, Dominique, Alexis, Ecoria, and Daryl II; spiritual granddaughter, Charnetta; sister-in-law, Carrie Kelly; a host of great grandchildren; special angels, Barbara Gartrell, Wanda Griffin, Sandra Williams, Patricia Reed, Rose Mary Williams, Cynthia Gartrell and Voncil Ponder-Crittendon; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and many sorrowing friends.
