Carlos Jermaine Dunbar, III (Lil’ Carlos), was born prematurely on October 7, 2000, to Lekianna Williams and Carlos Jermaine Dunbar. At birth, he weighed 1 pound 10 ounces, leaving him to be hospitalized for the next 3 months of his life where he fought so hard to survive. It was not until June 6, 2020, that he was diagnosed with Leukemia. Even in his time of dealing with such a disease, he fought a great fight. Unfortunately, his fight ended June 14, 2021.
Life is a blessing that we often take for granted. Our lives’ experiences are for the benefit of others. The way we inspire, help, and uplift one another is the true reflection of God’s Glory. That alone defined Carlos. He was a beacon of inspiration to us all in some way during his 20 years of living. Whether it was that of his contagious smile, his encouraging words, or his generous heart. To know him was to love him truly and deeply.
During his early childhood years, he attended several schools within the Duval County Public School system. Even with the changing of schools, he made great accomplishments and did not allow anything to get in the way of his learning. During his middle school years of 2012-2015, he was recognized for maintaining a 3.5 or better Grade Point Average the entire time. By the time he reached Jean Ribault High School, his teachers felt the need to remove him from his Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Programs and transition him to General Education classes. Carlos graduated Magna Cum Laude from Jean Ribault High School in 2019. After his high school graduation, he then went on to furthering his education at Frank H. Peterson Academies, where he pursued an interest in their Culinary Arts College Courses. He completed two full years carrying a 3.9 Grade Point Average overall with one year to go before his untimely demise.
Throughout his 20 years of living, Carlos was a young man of many talents which included being a Special Olympic Athlete where he placed 2nd overall in the Florida Regional Special Olympics from grades 6th through 12th. He was an amazing artist who loved drawing portraits and was just getting comfortable with his newfound talent of music, rap. His most favorable talent would be that of cooking, in which he loved preparing dinner for his family.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Gale Patricia Dunbar; and two brothers, Carlos Jermaine Dunbar, Jr. and Carlos Jermaine Dunbar, II.
