Carnell Tillman Obituary

On March 13, 2021, God called a true hero home. Carnell was born to the late Joe Tillman and Maxine White Tyler on July 28, 1947 in Waycross, Georgia. Carnell attended Peck High School in Fernandina Beach, Florida and later transferred to Lee High School in Waycross, Georgia where he graduated with the class of 1966. He was very active before graduating as he was the President of the Student council and the captain of the basketball team.  

In 1967, Carnell joined the United States Army where he served one tour of duty in the Vietnam war. He was instrumental in Sauing his platoon and made an everlasting impact whole being a combat solider. In 1969, he was medically discharged due to being wounded during the Vietnam War. Carnell received a Purple Heart Medal and a Bronze Star for his heroic efforts during the Vietnam War.

Carnell returned to Waycross, Georgia for a short while before moving to Syracuse, New York where he spent most of his adult life after serving the country. He worked in the steel industry as a Dye Maker for many years before getting injured which left him permanently disabled. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Magaline Williams Benjamin and Roy Harper.

Carnell leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Rose Tillman; three sons, Nikia Hooper (Rhonda), Carnell Tillman, Jr. (Princess) and Clarence Tillman; two stepsons, Odell Rice and Johnny Rice; two stepdaughters, Darlene Ragland and Gloria Blatche; grandchildren, Summer Hooper, Autumn Hooper, Clarence Tillman, Jr. and Khaleel Tillman; one brother, Leroy Tyler; sisters,  Mary Snow, Catherine Harley, Nora Bradley (David) and Angela Tyler; nephews, Santonio Tyler, Sr., Hassan Tyler (Tessa) and Maurice Fields; nieces, Shonell Rogers Savoy (Keith), Angel Phynon and Tyneshia Fields; special family, The Ashley’s; one special cousin, David White; one devoted friend, Donna Milton; and a host of devoted aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
