Carretta Christine Bacon Stewart was born October 11, 1938, in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Albert and Margaret Bacon. She attended local public schools and graduated from Matthew Gilbert.
Carretta married Oscar L. Stewart Sr. December 9, 1958. She had a full career in retail sales and management and was a valued caretaker of many of many families in Jacksonville, Florida. As a young woman, Caretta accepted Christ where she attended Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and stayed in Christ as she served faithfully at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Henry H. Wright, Jr. She was a woman of faith and trusted God in every aspect of her life. Carretta had a great love for crocheting her skill and creativity with it was unlike none other as she enjoyed crocheting for her family, church and friends.
Carretta gained her wings on Saturday, May 10, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar L. Stewart; parents, Albert Bacon Sr. and Margaret Bacon; daughter, Veronica Stewart; grandson, Kelvin Lemont Stewart; brothers, Albert Bacon, Jr., John Bacon and Alvie Bacon; and sisters, Evelyn Flynn and Joan Green.
Carretta Christine Bacon Stewart leaves to cherish her loving memories to her children, Kelvin Stewart (Angela), Belinda Kellogg (Melvin), Stanley Stewart (Sharon), Stacey Funchess (Phillip) and Oscar Stewart, Jr. (Vernetta); sisters, Thelma Badger, Margaret “Shirley” Bartley, Hazel Moses (Felton), Jean Gilmore (Nolan), Carolyn Bentley (Charles) and Jeraldine Powell; grandchildren, Katrina, Tevin (Jasmine), Jharod, Santuan, Shironica, Shirena, Brandon, Christopher, Caitlyn, Danielle, Melvin, Anthony, Asher and Shakeria; great-grandchildren, Sh’Kyra, Shimon, Lamont Jr., Stevon, Margie, Cierra, Ashley, Tiffany, Santiyanna, Santuan, Jaden, Kavaria, Titan and Tegan; a host of great-great grandchildren; godchildren, Lashanda and Romello; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and loving friends.
