Charlie T. Rivers was born on January 31, 1952, in Perry, Florida, to Reverend R. T. and Mother Mary Lou Rivers. At the age of four, his family relocated to Sarasota, Florida, where Charlie would cultivate a deep appreciation for family and faith. As an adult, he enjoyed a beautiful marriage and dedicated himself to raising seven extraordinary children. Over a remarkable 24-year journey as part of the military community, Charlie faced challenges with unwavering faith in God, a strength he drew from his upbringing at Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church in Sarasota, which kept him grounded.
Charlie was a devoted worker and a loving father who always took the time to listen and offer guidance to his children. The love and encouragement he provided played a crucial role in shaping their lives, and his memory will forever bring joy to their hearts. Having accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior early on, he consistently nurtured strong connections with his faith community wherever he lived. His last church home was at Hopewell Church's Mandarin Campus in Jacksonville, Florida, under the leadership of Pastor Gary L. Williams, Sr. He was an active member of that congregation until he answered the Lord’s call on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
Charlie was preceded in death by his grandparents, his wonderful parents, Reverend R. T. and Mother Mary L. Rivers, and his brother, James E. Rivers.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Rivers; his children, Derrick L. Rivers (Ohio), Erick A. Rivers (Ohio), Dierricka M. Berch (and Kenny—Georgia), Coticka N. Rivers (Georgia), Florence M. Spicer (and Ezra—Ohio), Drake D. Rivers (and Brittani—Florida), and Shataye M. Brown (and Thomas Jr.—Florida).
Additionally, he leaves behind his siblings, Shirley Johnson (and Eddie); Robert Rivers II (and Margie); Betty McKenzie; Floyd Rivers (and Marie); Billy Rivers (and Minnie); Claudia Johnson; Ricky Rivers; Ted Rivers (and Shawnee), along with 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Charlie is also fondly remembered by his sister-in-love, Joyce Monix Bryant; his best friend, Pete Wetlake; and a multitude of relatives and friends who will carry forward his inspiring legacy of love and faith.
