Christopher Devonish Obituary

Christopher Michael Devonish graduated to his next level on Saturday, May 21, 2022. He was affectionately known by his family and close friends as “Michael”. Michael was born on September 12, 1952 to the late Winston L. and Evana P. Devonish in Mobile, Alabama. He was preceded in death by both of his parents and grandparents Adolph Estell Mitchell. Michael was a proud 1969 graduate of Mattie T. Blount High School. He attended Seafarers International Union (S.I.U.) in Piney Point, Maryland. Michael was an instructor at the S.I.U. School of Merchant Marine Seaman. Michael was also a United States Merchant Marine Seamen traveling all over the world as an electrical engineer. He retired after a successful career of 45 plus years in 2016.

While Michael enjoyed many things, he had a strong love for people, taking rides on his motorcycle, and being able to be his loved ones “family doctor” sharing wellness and health remedies for all. His family will remember him as a man’s man. He was the type of person who would choose to repair something over buying a new one. He valued hard work, honesty, and the value of a man’s word. To his children, he was loving but fair. He made sure to instill his values on them as well as the importance of their education.

He leaves to cherish his memory loving and devoted daughter, Natasha Devonish, of Pikesville Maryland; two sons, Sean Devonish of Utica New York, and Abdul-Rahim Devonish of Pikesville Maryland; two step-daughters, Olga Ayala-Cleto of Puerto Rico, and Ana M. Benítez Cleto of Puerto Rico; grandchildren, DaShawn, Shi-Aya, Ikiya, Sadé, Chase, Ty-Sean, Mia, Naniuska, Tracy, Dahianna,  and Rafael; one great-grandchild, Dakari (DaShawn); two sisters, Yvette Devonish of Mobile, Alabama, and Ina Devonish-Biggs(Michael) of Jamaica, New York; one brother, Euston Devonish (Effie Veronica) of Houston, Texas; two loyal and faithful friends and ex-wives, Frances Devonish of Pikesville, MD, and Maria Cleto of Puerto Rico; a host of nieces and nephews, and a host of dear extended relatives and friends.
