Cozzie Mae Wilson

Cozzie Mae Wilson was born on March 12, 1940, in Foley, Florida. She went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 15, 2026, in Jacksonville, Florida.

Cozzie was educated early years by Richardson Heights in Lake City, Florida and graduated from Matthew W. Gilbert Senior High School in 1958.

Cozzie’s first job was with Brewsters Hospital in 1959, and last job was at the Florida Times Union. She worked there for thirty-five years and retired.

Cozzie received Christ as her Lord and Savior when she was eleven years old. She attended Historic Mt. Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church where she sang solo in the choir for the Lord for many of years.

Cozzie’s hobbies were being a seamstress, hat designs, modeling, cheering on the Jacksonville Bulls, gardening, singing, fishing, and boating. She also was a caregiver, enjoyed bowling and was a psalmist.

Cozzie was preceded in death by her parents, Frank A. Lester and Josie Lester; and siblings, Frankie Lee Lester, Betty Jean Evans, Robert Lester, Sr., Mae Dene Powell and Johnnie Lee Lester, Sr.

Cozzie is survived her loving children, Melvin Wilson, Jr., Kim Duray Wilson, Sr. (Rene), Toni Delene Durham (Charles), and Trachia Ann Roper (Thomas). She also survived by a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, siblings, Mary Howard, Fred Lester, Joan Jones, Selena Mae Pitman, Ethel Vaughan and Harold Hart and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
