Curtis Charles Gibson, Jr.

Curtis Charles Gibson, Jr. was born in Baltimore, Maryland, May 10, 1948, at Provident Hospital. He was the oldest of six children born to the late Curtis Charles Gibson, Sr. and Lola Charity Gilliiam Gibson. On Thursday, June 18, 2026, he transitioned from this life after a long illness. While growing up in West Baltimore, Curtis was known in the neighborhood as "Sonny" by his family and close friends and throughout his life he maintained long-term friendships and was very much devoted to his family.

He became a member of the Fulton Baptist Church in Baltimore at an early age and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Curtis was also an active member of the Sunday School, several church choirs and served on the church's Finance Committee as a young man.

Curtis was educated in the Baltimore Public Schools and graduated in 1966 from the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, a highly prestigious Engineering and Science (STEM) high school. While at Polytechnic, Curtis also participated in athletics and was awarded several school letters. During his junior year, he reached the city finals of the Track and Field championships.

While in high school, Curtis was presented with opportunities to attend a US military academy and several out-of-state colleges. However, he decided to stay closer to home and family and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland and a master’s degree from The Johns Hopkins University in Business Management. As an undergraduate, he had planned to attend Law School following graduation but was inspired by a high school teacher and an uncle to attend graduate business school and pursue a business career.

In 1972, Curtis married the former Carole L. Wiles, a RN nurse from Baltimore. A few years later, Curtis and Carole were relocated to New Jersey as a result of a promotional career opportunity for Curtis. While in New Jersey, they were blessed with a son, Sean and a daughter, Kimberley. Their family has grown and they are very proud of their two children, four grandchildren and godchildren. Curtis and Carole were married for 54 years.

While his son and daughter were growing up, Curtis particularly enjoyed spending time with them at YMCA swimming lessons, ballet lessons and recitals, football and basketball games and practices, Karate lessons, Jack and Jill event play dates, going to Toys R'US at the mall, hunting for used DJ audio and music equipment and family vacations, especially Disney World.

Curtis held many part-time, summertime and intern jobs during his childhood, high school and while in college. After college, he had a 44+ year career in the Information/Technology and Consulting Industries. Curtis held various corporate management and executive positions in Government Affairs and Regulatory, Marketing/SaIes, Personnel, and Chief Financial Officer organizations. He retired from AT&T but continued his career with several other Technology and Consulting firms after retirement.

In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Curtis enjoyed mentoring and coaching young people, junior managers and college students within and outside his corporate environment. He was also a member of a national business alliance organization supporting the mentoring and partnership with students and faculty/staff at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. During his career, Curtis was selected for and graduated from The Executive Business Program at the University of Virginia's prestigious Darden Graduate School of Business, Charlottesville, Virginia. He also completed other postgraduate work at the Wharton Graduate School of Business (Univ. of Penn) and the University of Michigan Graduate School of Business.

Curtis received various awards and commendations during his career. Two achievements he was most fond of were being profiled in "Who's Who" and receiving his Company's highest award for outstanding achievement. Curtis also proudly served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged after six years of service from the Army Reserve. During his time in the service, he received several commendations and was also recommended for Officers Candidate School.

Upon retiring, Curtis and Carole relocated to Ponte Vedra, Florida and joined Hopewell Church. Curtis regularly attended worship and participated in Harris Family Group activities and the Small Bible Study Group. Curtis enjoyed attending live concerts and music. Marvin Gaye was his favorite performer and he was once thrilled as a teenager to see Mr. Gaye live after sneaking into a night club with friends.

Curtis and Carole enjoyed traveling including many cruises and especially the long cruises to Alaska and Hawaii. They also enjoyed quiet dining with family and friends. Curtis was also a "car guy" and enjoyed researching automotive material and attending car shows and auctions. He was particularly fond of his model Corvette car collection and the two Corvette cars that he had personally owned.

During his career, Curtis received numerous classic ink pens as awards and for recognition of his achievements. As a result, he continued to add special ink pens to his collection as a hobby. Curtis was kind-hearted, thoughtful, supportive, had a great sense of humor and was very humble and generous. He was also very loyal, trusted and had a high degree of integrity and led by example. In addition, Curtis had an "old school" approach to life and viewed life's challenges and obstacles as opportunities to improve himself personally, strengthen his faith and reach out to those around him who might need to be lifted up.

Curtis was a person of strong faith and during his recent illness he leaned very heavily on his faith in God and greatly appreciated all the prayers and kind thoughts he received from family and friends.

Curtis was predeceased by his parents, Curtis Gibson, Sr. and Lola Gibson; and a brother, Wesley Gibson, Sr. He is survived by the love of his life of 54 years, Carole Wiles Gibson; by his son, Sean Gibson, Georgia; his daughter, Kimberley Gibson Paschall, Georgia; son-in-law, Lannie Paschall, Georgia; four grandchildren, Jordyn, Savoy, TafafNatat and Mikya; three brothers, Aaron Gibson, New Jersey, Alvin Gibson, Florida, Wayne Gibson, Delaware; one sister, Sharon Hayes, Maryland; one aunt, Ruth Leigh, North Carolina; sisters-in-law, Cheryl Gibson, Florida, and Carmen Hammel, Nevada; brother-in-law, John Hammel, Nevada; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.
