Daphnie Yvette Rainey

Daphnie Yvette Rainey, 58, entered eternal rest on June 10, 2026. She was born on March 26, 1968, in Duval County, Florida, to Joe and Junelle Baker Rainey.

As the youngest of five children, Daphnie shared a special bond with her family throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her mother, Junelle B. Rainey; her father, Joe Rainey; and her brother, Johnnie Rainey. She leaves behind her loving brothers, Reginald G. Rainey, Joel L. Rainey (Sophonia), and Jeffrey M. Rainey, Sr. (Rhonda), who will forever cherish her memory.

Daphnie graduated from Jean Ribault Senior High School in 1986 and went on to attend Paine College in Augusta, Georgia. While pursuing her education, she also worked at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay. In the fall of 1987, Daphnie (Optimum 5) of the “Notorious Nine” was initiated into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, beginning a lifelong sisterhood that she valued deeply.

In 1989, while participating in activities surrounding the Martin Luther King Jr. observance, Daphnie was involved in a tragic automobile accident that resulted in a spinal cord injury. Though her life changed dramatically, her determination and faith never wavered. Through perseverance and strength, she continued her education and later graduated from the University of North Florida with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting.

Although Daphnie did not return to the workforce after her injury, she devoted herself to the people and causes she loved most. She became the family’s historian, preserving memories, photographs, and stories that connected generations. She was also a faithful member of First Deliverance Church of Jacksonville, where she served as Financial Secretary and Treasurer. Her commitment to her church reflected her deep faith, dedication, and servant’s heart.

Family was the center of Daphnie’s life. She took great joy in helping to raise and guide her niece, Sherra N. Rainey, and her nephew, Jeffrey M. Rainey, Jr. They were her pride and joy, and she celebrated every milestone in their lives. Her love extended to the next generation as she delighted in the lives of her great-nieces, Sahniya, Miyah, and Ariyah, and her great-nieces Ella and Luna. They were truly the light of her life and brought her immeasurable happiness.

Daphnie will be remembered for her unwavering faith in God, her resilience in the face of adversity, her devotion to family, and her compassionate spirit. She touched countless lives through her kindness, wisdom, and encouragement. Her legacy lives on in the family she loved the church she served, and the many lives she inspired.

Though she is no longer with us, her memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
