Darthey Jim Simon

Darthey Jim Simon affectionately known as "Candy Boy" was born on May 12, 1931 in Sylvester, Georgia to the late Sam Simon and Ida Ash. He was educated in the local schools. He was employed with the City of Atlantic Beach, Florida and retired after many of years of dedicated service.

Darthey was a member of Bead Street Holiness Church of Alma, Georgia where he served as a Deacon for many of years. He enjoyed fishing and singing. He was a legendary Gospel Singer of the BSA’s Gospel Singers, founder of the Gospel Caravans of Jacksonville, Florida, the Mighty Imperials of Jacksonville, Florida and the Mighty Imperials of Alma, Georgia.

God saw fit to send His angel of death into the room of Darthey Jim Simon with its love and tender care to relieve him from the troubles of this world. On Sunday Evening, September 15, 2019, Darthey Jim Simon entered into his eternal rest to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam Simon and Ida Ash; one son, Clarence Simon; one grandson, Tyrin Simon; four brothers, Henry Simon, Kelvin Simon, M. C. Simon and Joe Simon; and two sisters, Sugg Stokes and Della Jenkins.

Candy Boy leaves to mourn his passing but to cherish his memories, his daughters, Sadie H. Scott (Horace), Arletha Anderson (Carlton), Dr. Barbara Brown (Pastor Larry) and Deborah Corde; sons, Willie Jim Simon (Christen), Freddie Simon, Frankie Simon, Barry Powell (Chico) and Theodore Simon (Gabriella); sister, Catherine Woolbright; daughter-in-law, Darlene Simon; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
