It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Deacon Lawrence Venable, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this life on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at the age of 86, in Jacksonville, Florida. Born on November 21, 1938, in Richmond, Virginia, Lawrence was a man of faith, strength, and exceptional kindness, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Lawrence Venable was the cherished son of Mack and Mary Venable, who instilled in him the values of hard work, integrity, and love for the Lord. He was preceded in death by his devoted parents and his beloved son, Rickey Venable, whose absence he carried with grace throughout his life.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience through his beloved wife, Virginia Venable, with whom he shared a deep and abiding bond. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family, including their children Daphne, Rhonda, Darrell, Joyce, Toni (Billy), Yvette (Tony), Derrick, and Renee. Lawrence took immense pride in being a father and was a guiding light for his children, instilling in them the virtues of compassion and faith.
Deacon Venable was blessed with a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose laughter and joy were a source of immeasurable happiness for him. He was a true family man and often said that his greatest joy came from spending time with his loved ones. His extended family included numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives, all of whom held a special place in his heart, along with his church family and many dear friends.
A proud veteran, Lawrence served honorably in the United States Army, exemplifying the values of service and commitment. His dedication to his country highlighted his character and was a testament to his belief in giving back to the community.
Lawrence was an active member of Hopewell Church, where he served as a deacon and was deeply involved in church activities. He was passionate about sharing his faith and loved discussing the teachings of the Bible, often inspiring others with his words of wisdom and encouragement. His commitment to his faith and community was evident in his everyday actions, as he sought to spread love and kindness wherever he went.
In addition to his spiritual pursuits, Lawrence was a champion bowler, a hobby that brought him much joy and camaraderie. He enjoyed competing and sharing laughter with friends in the bowling community. His love for reading the Bible was matched only by his enthusiasm for engaging with others, sharing stories, and fostering connections that transcended generations.
Lawrence Venable’s life was a testament to love, faith, and community. He will be remembered for his warm smile, gentle spirit, and unwavering support for those around him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will carry forward the lessons he imparted and the love he shared.
As we say goodbye to Deacon Lawrence Venable, we celebrate a life well-lived, a heart well-loved, and a spirit that will forever shine bright in our memories.
