The matriarch of the Woods Family, Delores Woods (Lois), also called by her nickname “Cookie” went home to be with the Lord at 3:20 pm on Monday, September 27, 2021. Although, she was quiet in nature and humble, her life brought love, joy, inspiration, and comfort when she was around her family and friends. She was born on September 19, 1941 in Lake City, Florida in the home of her Great Aunt, Belle Harrison Griffin. The house where her great grandparent the Late John and Millie B. Harrison lived in the early days. Delores was the oldest child born to the Late LeRoy Woods, Sr. and Willie Mae Jenkins Woods.
Delores attended the local schools in Jacksonville, Florida and graduated from Old Stanton High School, class of 1959. She went on to further her education in Tallahassee, Florida graduated from Florida A&M University with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology and Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling. Lois was employed with Ware County Public Schools and Duval County Public Schools as a teacher giving over 30 years of service. She was a member of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa INC., the Retired Teacher Association, a faithful member of Stanton Class of 1959, and was one of the pioneer members of Central Baptist Institutional Church where she served as Church Clerk for over 25 years.
Lois is preceded in death by her parents; her aunts, Thelma Woods Montgomery, Millie Pearl Woods Tucker, Juanita Woods, Delores Woods-Cohen, and Rosa Garvin; her uncles, Ishmeal (Mary), J.C. (Ernestine), Leo (Lessie), Cleveland (Mary), and Verdell (Alise); her cousins, Doretha Woods, Ervin Montgomery, Sr., Netha Harris, Drew Woods, Aubrey Woods, Bernard Woods, and Helen W. Alexander; and her best friends, Marie Benton and Linda Malpress.
Lois leaves to cherish her memories, her brothers, LeRoy Woods, Jr. (Deborah) and Clifford Woods (Angela Lamar) all of Jacksonville, FL; her nephew, Christian Crawford of Macclenny, FL; her godson, Darius Woods; her god grandchildren, Dary’Ale (Muffin) Woods and Da’Riyah (Cupcake) Woods all of Jacksonville, FL; godchild, Moriah Williams; her cousins, Raymond Montgomery (Barbara) and Doris Montgomery all of Tallahassee, FL, Dorothy Kent, of Hoffman Estate, IL, Rev.
