Dorece Singletary was born on March 27, 1924 to Marleather Christopher and Eddie Singletary. She departed this life on Saturday, August 22, 2020.
She attended the local schools in Duval County including Douglas Anderson #107 and old Stanton High School.
She met and married the late Otis Lewis and from this union they had seven children, Marleatha, Rosalind, Clazyonia, Otis, Phillip, Kennith and Larry. The family moved to Miami, where she worked at North Dade Hospital as a Dietitian Aid for many years before returning back to Jacksonville. She then worked and retired from Memorial Hospital.
She reunited with Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, the church she attended as a child. She was a member of the Usher Ministry where she later served as president for more than 10 years. She also served as president of District #2, Chaplin of the Young at Heart, Senior Ministry, Member of the MAM of Fidelity Court #69 and American Legion Union #244.
She was preceded in death by her father, Eddie Singletary; mother, Marleather; sons, Kennith Lewis, Phillip Lewis and Larry Lewis; daughter, Clayzonia Lewis; granddaughters, Bonita Dexter and Tamika Wright.
She was survived by three loving and devoted children, Marleatha Jean Fewquay of Miami, FL, Rosalind Elaine Stevens (Harry), and Otis Lewis of Jacksonville, FL; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grands; 49 great great grands; 7 great great great grands; one godsister, Elsie Sander of Atlanta, GA; special family friend, Edward Oliver, Sr. of Winter Haven, FL; special friends, Easter Carson, Geneva Watson, Freddie and Lenora Williams; and a host other relatives and friends.
