Douglas Hayes the fifth born of the late James and Lula Hayes Sr. arrived on January 17, 1951, in New York City and departed Wednesday May 4, 2022 in Jacksonville, FL.
He was raised in Brooklyn and in his early teens the family moved to Coney Island where he attended Mark Twain JHS, he loved playing basketball and the stardom it possessed then attended George Washington HS; he served his country at an early age by enlisting in the Army. He was deployed to Viet Nam, served 4 terms then Honorably discharged January 22, 1978.
Born and raised in New York City, Douglass enjoyed the challenge of perfection in each endeavor. During his journey he captured the hearts of many from New York City to North Carolina, to Oklahoma to Florida where he made his home. He was a loving and supportive instrument of the family. Being one of 8 middle kids, he used his charisma and altruistic personality captured the hearts of many people giving them encouraging words of wisdom and the first of his nine siblings to become a college graduate. He was a leader, an inspiration, a motivator and a care giver in the time of need.
Douglas is preceded in death by his father, mother, son, Darnel Paris Dobbins; his brothers, James Hayes and Jonas Hayes; and sisters, Gladys Henderson and Shirlene Brooks. He is survived by his daughter, Carol Webb; son-in-law, Corey; two granddaughters; two brothers; three sisters; three brothers-in-law; one sister in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
