Dr. Valerie Flowers Obituary

Dr. Valerie Jean Flowers was born on November 17, 1955, in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Buck and Abbie D. Flowers, the second of nine children. She was the first daughter (Daddy’s girl!) in our family, followed by four sons before another girl was born. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved brother, Bruce E. Flowers; and grandparents, Leroy and Eddie Lee Watts Flowers; Oscar Bailey and Mariah Goshay Gaynor.

Valerie was educated in the public schools of Duval County, graduating from New Stanton Senior High School, class of 1973. She was voted for the most popular girl and was also crowned Miss Stanton 1972-73. Valerie was a military wife and traveled the world in that capacity. She later earned a Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate Degree in Christian Counseling from Jacksonville Theological Seminary. Valerie was employed by Memorial Hospital for many years and later became CEO/Owner of C.M. and Associates “Life Coach & Christian Counselor”.

Valerie was baptized as a child at First New Zion Missionary Baptist Church on Davis Street, under the leadership of Reverend C. C. Brown.  She received Christ at the age of 19 and was active in several local churches with our father. She joined One Accord Ministries in 1996, and became an engrained leader within the church. Dr. Flowers served on the building committee, ministerial team, and as a section leader. She helped start the Conquerors for the Kingdom outreach ministry and was president of the choir. Further, Dr. Flowers served on the Finance committee as the assistant financial secretary. She was also an instructor at Jacksonville Theological Seminary at One Accord, serving on the licensing and ordination council for over twenty years.

Valerie was a dedicated daughter, sister, wife, and mother. She absolutely adorned her children and grandchildren and had a special bond with each of her siblings. She knew the birthdays of every family member, down to the youngest baby! Valerie was truly devoted to our family and will be greatly missed. Upon the passing of our mother, she stepped in the matriarch role with style, class, and grace.

She leaves a strong and rich legacy to mourn her passing, children, Albert Roberts, Damion Straughter (Deanna) and Derwin Straughter (Jennifer); grandchildren, Chris Roberts, Eurich Roberts, Jasmine Roberts, Daija Roberts, Immanule Roberts, Dameisha Straughter, Tayana Straughter, Iyonna Stokes, Paris Straughter, Destiny Straughter, Kevin Straughter, Jamal Straughter and Serenity Straughter; siblings, Leroy Preston (Mary), Lawrence (Frances), Kenneth, Russell (Thais), Barry, Doreatha (Mark), Annie (Jerome), Gregory, and Michael (Alisha); nieces and nephews, Roderick Sr, DeAlice, Rhonda, Russell II, Jessica, Kimberly, Lawrence II,  Jasmine, Nikenya, Russhelle, Marca’e, Ciera, Icy, Abbie, Jennetta, Jerome II, Jermaine, Jessica, Tiffany, Brittany, Isial, LaTanya, Michael Jr., MaKayla, Miracle, Malachi and Luke; great nieces and nephews, Roderick Jr, Brittany, Keyerra, Daniel IV, Jimmy III, Aniya, Dallas, Christian, Courtney, Cameron, Cobe , Charlotte, Hunter, Nikolai, Kayden, Russhana, Braylen, Jo’Neil, Hendrix, Brooks, Jamari, James Jr., Anae', Jerome III, Jakaria, Jada, Jaliyah , Justice, Christopher, Jamiyah, Amyla, Jeriah, Jasiaah, Moriah, Ashanti, True, Danita, and Shelton; great-great nieces and nephews, Brendan, Aiden, JaMiri, and A’Roya; aunts, Liz Flowers Gant (Edward) and Ernestine Morgan; cousins, Reddick, Carswell, Turpin, and Watts Families; and a host loving family members and friends.
