Dr. Willie Reed, Jr. Obituary

Willie Reed, Jr. was born on October 30, 1950 in Barnwell County, South Carolina to the late Willie Reed, Sr. and Annie Ingram Reed. Willie affectionately called “Doc” by family and friends, departed this life on Monday, November 27, 2023 into the arms of the Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents and his maternal grandparents Martin and Arrie Ingram.

Willie grew up in Brunswick, Georgia and at an early age he joined the First African Baptist Church where he faithfully served the Lord. He attended in the Glynn County School System graduating from Risley High School class of 1968. Willie continued his educational journey at Brunswick Junior College. His next step took him to the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia where he became a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Later, he attended Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. Willie accomplished his educational goals when he received his Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree from Xavier University of New Orleans, Louisiana in 1980. During the same year, he became a Board-Certified Pharmacist for the State of Louisiana and began his career. In 1991, Willie and his family moved to Jacksonville, Florida where he continued his career as a pharmacist.

While attending Bethune-Cookman University, he met and married the love of his life, Sharon K. Simmons Reed on December 25, 1978. Their union was blessed with three sons, Brandon, Brian and Brennan.

Willie was a loving husband, father and grandfather. During his leisure time, he loved to fish and play golf. He sincerely loved spending time with both family and friends. He was always telling jokes and making you laugh. During the summer, many memories were made when cousins would meet up and spend time at their grandparent’s house on the farm in Allendale, South Carolina. Willie was the comedian of the group and he was the most creative person. We often reminisce about the day grandmother was looking for him to give him punishment for something he did and couldn’t find him. We all began to look and he still could not be located. Later we found out that he was up in a tree watching us the entire time as we looked for him. Willie will be greatly missed by all.

His loving spirit will forever be cherished by his loving wife, Sharon K. Reed; three sons, Brandon C. Reed, Brian J. Reed and Brennan M. Reed all of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren, Briana Reed of Jacksonville, Florida and Ahmor Z. Reed of Orlando, Florida; sister, Arrie Reed of Brunswick, Georgia; brother-in-law, Robert Keith Simmons (Sylvia); niece, Kierra Simmons; nephew, Donte Simmons all of Eustis, Florida; two aunts, Ethel Simmons of Allendale, South Carolina and Catherine Bostic of Baltimore, Maryland; uncle, Earl Graves of Baltimore, Maryland; caregiver and close friend, Sharon Knowles of Jacksonville, Florida; and a host of other loving family and friends.
