Edward Tyson Obituary

Edward Warren Tyson was born on November 9, 1951, to Freddie Tyson Sr. and Dorothy Bryant at Brewster Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. He grew up on Jacksonville’s Northside, where he was raised with strong family values and a hardworking spirit. Edward attended Mathew Gilbert High School, where he excelled in football and track, before entering the workforce and beginning his career as a painter at the Jacksonville Shipyards.

Edward loved spending time fishing, being with family, watching football, and enjoying classic westerns with family and friends. Above all, he was deeply devoted to his mother, Dorothy Bryant, who preceded him in death. Edward was a loving, supportive, and affectionate father to his daughters, Tara and Cicely. He took great pride in them and truly doted on his girls, always making sure they knew how much they were loved. His kindness, guidance, and constant encouragement made him an outstanding father whose love and presence will forever remain in their hearts.

In October 2018, Edward married his longtime friend Shirley Ann Mincey of Folkston, Georgia. Her family welcomed him warmly, and her children, Marquis and Marquita Lambert, loved him as their dad. Edward cherished weekends filled with cookouts, family celebrations, and laughter, often shared with close friends Tony Gordon and Robert Jones.

Edward is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Ann Tyson; daughters, Tara Tyson and Cicely Tyson-White (Errol); stepchildren, Marquis and Marquita Lambert; and grandchildren, Da'Shana Townsend, Errol White, and Tyson White. He also leaves his brothers, Freddie Tyson Jr., Larry Tyson, Charles Tyson, Alfred Jackson, and Furman Jackson; baby sister, Tankina Tyson-Cummings; his beloved niece, the very special Tina Tyson; a host of other nieces and nephews; many Folkston grandchildren; in-laws, Velma Mincey, Edward Mincey (Elizabeth), Willie Mincey, Juanita Martin (Dominik), Henry Mincey (Lisa), and Valentina Edmonds (Michael); god daughter, Teonia Wiggs; and cherished friends.

Although the final chapter of his life brought challenges, Edward passed away peacefully with his daughter Cicely at his side, expressing his enduring and unconditional love for her.
