Edwina Johnson Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edwina Evette Johnson, a beloved daughter, mother, sister, and friend, who left this world on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the age of 58. Edwina was born on April 12, 1967, in Jacksonville, Florida, where she spent her entire life, enriching the lives of everyone she met with her warmth and kindness.

Edwina was the cherished daughter of Donella Barker and Edward Sutton. She was the heart of her family, and her love and devotion were evident in every aspect of her life. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Micheal Johnson, Sr.; her son, Micheal Johnson, Jr.; and her father, Edward Sutton. Her memory will be carried on by her two remaining children, Jaqua Alexander and Carl Davis, Jr., who were the joy of her life.

Edwina was not only a devoted mother but also a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren: Destiny Perry, Ryan Pinkney, Jr., June Dixon, Hendrix Davis, Raymond Wilson, Omar O'Neal and Dimitri Thomas. She was also a dear sister to her brothers, Edward Sutton (Julia), Arvis Sutton, and Edwin Sutton (Sabrina), as well as her sister, Lafrances Sutton. Her family also includes her godsisters, Tiffany Brown-Dennis and Pequeno Garmon; aunts, Donna Dennard, Wanna Upton, Malva Jones (Bishop Kermit), Delreatha Brown, Mary Rackley, Willean Wallace, Wanda Lamar and Jeanett Brown; great-aunt, Mary James; and uncle, Stepney Brown.

A graduate of William M. Raines High School, Edwina furthered her education at Bethune-Cookman College, embodying a lifelong commitment to learning and growth. She found fulfillment in her career with the International Longshoreman Association, where she earned the respect of her colleagues and made numerous friends.

Edwina was a devoted member of the Tabernacle Baptist Institutional Church, a place where she found spiritual nourishment and community connection. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, inspiring her to serve others with grace and compassion.

Her interests were varied, with a passion for traveling and decorating, hobbies that allowed her to express her creativity and enjoy the beauty of the world around her. Edwina was known for her infectious laughter and loving spirit, and she cultivated deep bonds with her best friends—Valencia, Arnetta, Beatrice, Felicia, Mike, Reggie, and Yarlonda—who will miss her dearly.

Edwina is also survived by her in-laws, Leonard Johnson, Sr. (Patricia), Wanda Manning, Vanessa McDuffie (Johnnie), and Pamela Rivers (Carlton), who welcomed her into their family with open arms. She was a loving godmother to Laniya Martin, Saylor Brown, and Christopher O'Neal, and her legacy of love will continue through them.

In her quiet strength and vibrant spirit, Edwina touched the lives of many, and her memory will forever be cherished. Edwina Evette Johnson will be remembered for her unwavering love, her resilience in the face of adversity, and her dedication to family and friends. Though she has left this earthly realm, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved her. May she rest in peace, knowing she was deeply loved.
