Elder Lorraine Cotton Obituary

Elder Lorraine Cotton was born on January 5, 1958 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was raised by Charles Simpson and Margaret Sherman of Jacksonville, Florida from the age of six months old. She graduated from Bishop Kenny High school. She dedicated twenty-eight years to Aetna Life Insurance as a Claims Benefit Specialist. She was the CEO and founder of both Cotton Stitches LLC and Deed of Trust Mobile Notary LLC.

Elder Lorraine Cotton received Christ at an early age. She joined We’re for Jesus House of Prayer in 1985, where she became a licensed minister on September 9, 1989. She exercised her gift in ministry as the armour bearer of Pastor Mary A. Jones for ten years. Elder Cotton would later join Philippian Community Church in April 2003, under the leadership of Bishop Virgil Calvin Jones, Sr. She continued as a vital worker in ministry as the armour bearer of First Lady Elder Mary M. Jones for twenty plus years. Her years of servitude in ministry included being part of the Women’s Department, a Sunday school teacher, a servant of Philippi Koinonia and she was ordained as an Elder on May 28, 2023.

Elder Cotton was known for her unwavering faith, strength, dedication, compassion, kindness and nurturing spirit. She held integrity while accomplishing the will of God. Elder Cotton enjoyed anything bling and glamorous, traveling, her sewing and crafts and most of all being a mother and grandmother. She considered her friends as family. No matter the encounter with her, it was always warm and loving, however, sometimes all you could do is laugh and shake your head.

Elder Cotton was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of twenty-eight years, Mark Cotton; her children, Aimee Swain, Adrian Grier (Jamaal), Heather Cotton, Mark Cotton II and Kristen Cotton; grandchildren, Jacob Grier and Lauren Grier; sisters, Joyce Batchelor (Leon), Willie Mae Bomar and Bettie McCullen; and a host of family, friends and church members.
