Elder Marilyn Miles Obituary

Elder Marilyn D. Butts Miles was born to the late Louis and Lois Butts on March 4, 1954 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was one of four children raised within this union. She matriculated through Duval County public schools and was noted as one that was educationally gifted, graduating early and at the top of her class. Her educational pursuits allowed her to obtain a Bachelor and Master’s Degree in Communication. She was a proud graduate of The University of Florida Class of 1981. Go Gators!

Elder Miles was very passionate about the love of her life, Jesus Christ and her two special gifts from God, Joshua E. Miles and Mitchell J. I. Miles. She thoroughly enjoyed family time, teaching, coaching, mentoring and winning at game night. Some of her hobbies included word games, travel, cooking, and time spent with her family. The extra gleam in her eye came at the addition to the family as a daughter of love, Are’l Brown and her grandchildren, McKenzie Miles, Ronnie Harrell, and Cade Brown.

Marilyn Miles was blessed to accept Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very young age.  Her Christian experience afforded her opportunities to grow and develop in many spiritual giftings. Her love for the Word of God, faith for the impossible, and historian in the Lord’s church for various moves of God. She witnessed accounts of the miraculous workings of the power of God. She joined Deliverance Temple Global Ministries under the pastorate of Dr. Alva D. Harris and Dr. Ida Harris where she served in many capacities, and was known for her spirit of excellence, leadership by example, witty sense of humor, resources, biblical contributions and exceptional service. She was loved by all and took the time to empower every Purpose and Destiny Class since 2018.

Her professional accomplishments to name a few: were at Social Services and Teen Challenge in the state of New York. She was gainfully employed with the State of Florida Department of Revenue for well over 33 years. She held several positions within the agency. She was a trainer, a hiring liaison, and Revenue Administrator III. She cowrote the grant for the Fatherhood Initiative Program and it is still being utilized today. Once retired, she continued her journey on the Executive Board of Deliverance Global Ministries, and as a Guardian Ad Litem advocating, protecting, and being a wealth of knowledge, love and grace. She had many loving memoirs and quotes, “Living Your Best Life”, “Can you reframe that?”, “God is no man’s debtor”, “Your destiny is calling you”, & “Always trust God”. She was a walking dictionary, known to her church as an “articulate Wordologist”.

Elder Marilyn Miles, left this world on the evening of August 25, 2025.  She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and her two brothers, Timothy Butts and Reginald Butts. Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Joshua E. Miles and Mitchell J.I. Miles; daughter of love, Are’l Brown; her loving sister, Rachel McGriff; grandchildren, Ronnie Harrell, Cade Brown, and McKenzie Miles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, church family, and a host of many friends and associates.
