Eleanor Louise Wright Moore, affectionately known to family and friends as ‘Mama Lou’ and ‘Sister Lou’, was born December 15,1932, to the late George Wright and Mildred Jones in Callahan, FL. She transitioned to her heavenly home on February 14, 2026.
Mama Lou’s blended family included eight siblings. She was preceded in death by her mother Mildred Jones; father, George Wright; husband, Clinton Leroy Moore; brothers, Leroy Wright and Robert Simmons; sisters, Barbara Reed and Joanne Baker; and son, Winfred Vernon Moore.
On August 2, 1950, Eleanor married the late Clinton Leroy Moore and from their union their four sons, Reginald, Winfred, Bruce and Rodney were born. As parents, they taught their sons to recognize and serve God as the Supreme Being, to respect themselves and others, to practice exemplary work habits, and to be a good steward of time and money. Recognizing the importance of education, they encouraged their sons to earn a secondary education.
Eleanor Louise lived in Callahan, Florida, her entire 93 years of life. She attended Stanton High School in Jacksonville, Florida. She continued her career and educational pursuits in attending Boles College of Nursing and Florida Junior College. She worked as a CNA at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida for over a decade. She continued her CNA career as a private CNA for over ten years providing excellent individualized care and dedication to her patients.
Eleanor Louise was a woman of great faith. She joined the New Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church at an early age and served faithfully until her health began to decline. Eleanor Louise loved the Lord and her Church. While at New Bethel AME, she was a dedicated Trustee Board Member for over 32 years. On August 31, 2025, she was awarded Steward Emeritus for her dedication and work as a Steward.
Her favorite past-times were serving at church, visiting with family, friends, and doing word search puzzles.
Her memories will be cherished and shared by her sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren: Reginald Moore (Yvonne), Bruce Moore (Sandra), and Rodney Moore (Brenda). Her amazing grandchildren, Lamar ‘Ron’ Horne (Tivonna), Damar ‘Shawn’ Horne, Nykia Banks (Marvin), Brittany Sanders (Najee), Marshelle Moore, Africa Williamson, Darnell Hardeen, Shemar Milton, Latalvia Paramore, Latalia Paramore, Sherie Boykin (Qwan), and Sharie’ Hudson, Tony Vann, Rashan Jones, Omar Jones, Brandon Phillis; and great grandchildren, Brandon Lawrence, Damariae Horne, Cameron Horne, Jaylen Horne, Shawnterria Horne, Keyasia Horn, Deanna Bryant, Brielle Sanders, Khaleesi Williams and Riaan Boykin.
She is also survived by three siblings, Marva Mitchell, Everette Simmons, and Arnold Simmons; chosen daughters, Luviser Beck, Belinda Felder and Wanda Sheffield; a beloved friend, Agnes Smith; and her nephew, Avery Simmons who faithfully served as her dedicated caregiver; three godchildren, Kenyetta Jones, Brenda Wilbert and Sheila Taylor; and a host of loved ones, family and friends.
