Erica Yvonne Bright was born to Samuel and Merlyn Bright on January 4, 1957, in Stuart, Florida. She was a graduate of Martin High School where she was a very jovial cheerleader. Erica attended Jones College where she studied to become a medical assistant.
Erica loved poetry. She was a member of the 4H Club and she participated in community service events. Erica was extremely altruistic and benevolent early in life. She spent time doing creative dance and she relished in fashion.
Erica eventually made her way to Jacksonville where she delighted in her family. She was a loving and yet tough mother to her son, Terrod. They shared a bond that was undeniable. Erica encouraged her son as he navigated school and played both basketball and football, she loved to wear her son’s jersey showing off her enthusiasm and passion for him.
Erica’s earthly assignment was clear, being a nurturer and support for her family. She was a dedicated caregiver to her sister with special needs. She was favorited by many, best big sister, adoring aunt and all-around beautiful soul. Erica was so giving of her time, resources and love. She had a big heart for her family and especially the young generations as she poured into their lives with goodies and her big smile. Erica was faithful. She gave her life to Christ early in life and carried a torch for the Word of God as she lived her life.
Erica was preceded in death by her father and mother, Samuel and Merlyn Bright; brother, Myron Bright; and sister, Sundae Bright.
Erica’s legacy will remain in the hearts of her son Terrod Bright (Amber); granddaughter, Alexandria; siblings, Christopher Bright, Sandra Jackson, Michele Bright, Sherall Bright, Sharon Bright, Sharron Simmons, Roxanne Simmons, Sophia Simmons, Chevonne Simmons, Charlene Parks (Emory), Cynthia Jackson (Terrell), Doris Devaughn, Lester Devaughn, Terrance Mungin and Tewanna Witsell (Edward); nieces and nephews, Erica Jackson, Latrell NeNe Preston, Danny Waye, Christopher Bright (LeTrell), Reshanna Bright, Ramal Bright, Myron Anthony, Tiffany Anthony, Cavario Jackson (Cypriana), Alexia Washington, Stephen Paulk, Chequan Clark, Clyde Clark, Raven Clark, Colin Clark, Shilah Clark, Shonta Smith, Toshiba Gibbs (Cartriel) and Cicely Thomas; as well as a host of loving and devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, Erica wishes that donations be made to the City Rescue Mission (www.crmjax.org) in support of the homeless.
