Mildred Johnson Benjamin was born on November 5, 1939 to Lewis and Edna Johnson in Register, Georgia. She attended the local schools and furthered her education receiving an Associate’s Degree in Biblical Studies.
Mildred was united in Holy Matrimony to Bishop Desso Benjamin for 68 years. She was employed with the Duval County School Board and retired after 33 years of faithful service. Mildred was the First Lady of Faith United Miracle Temple where she was affectionately known as “Mother Ben”. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, art painting, gardening, and spending time with her family.
First Lady Mother Mildred Johnson Benjamin slept away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, May 25, 2022. She was preceded in death by her father, Lewis Johnson; mother, Edna Johnson; and brother, Claude Johnson.
Mother Ben leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 68 years, Bishop Desso Benjamin; sister, Carrie Kelly; children, Vera Goodman (Jan), Sheldon Benjamin and Linda Thompson; grandchildren, Adrienne, Christina, Janell, ChaQuina, Quan, Dominique, Alexis, Ecoria and Daryl; a host of great grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, many sorrowing friends and her earth angels, Barbara Gartrell, Tanya Brooks (Goddaughter), Rosemary Williams, Cynthia Gartell, Pat Reed, Sandra Williams, Lois Harvey and Dr. Nelki Rivera Acosta.
