Florestine Meeks Obituary

Mrs. Florestine Louise (Davis) Meeks was born September 6, 1930, in Jacksonville, Florida. Her parents were Joe Davis and Lillie Delegol Davis; they preceded her in death. She attended local public schools and earned her Registered Nursing (RN) degree from Florida Community College of Jacksonville. Her medical education allowed her to share her Christian Faith through endless acts of caring for and helping others as a medical professional.

Florestine retired from St. Vincent’s Medical Center Riverside after serving more than four decades with loyal and unwavering commitment to her nursing profession.

Florestine was an avid traveler, traveling domestically and abroad. She was a member of Live Long and Like It Social & Travel Group. She enjoyed gardening, fashion, cooking, serving her community, spending time with family and friends, and praising God.

Florestine joined Emanuel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. S. L. Badger, Jr., in 1961. Rev. Darriel D. Brown, Jr., is the current pastor. She was a longtime member of the Nurses Guild of the church.

Florestine’s strong commitment to her community was evident through her fundraising efforts to rebuild the Ritz Theater & Museum. She was a long-time dedicated member of the North Riverside Community Association. She walked countless miles to raise awareness of programs that beautify and revitalize communities, including the Housing Partnership's Paint the Town initiative. Florestine attended City Council meetings. She was appointed to the Mayor's Council on Elder Affairs.

Florestine united in marriage to Mr. Spencer Walter Meeks, Sr, who preceded her in death. With devotion and love as a wife, they raised nine children through teachings rooted in faith, emphasizing the importance of community involvement.

Florestine was a dedicated servant until the Lord called her home on Friday, June 5, 2026. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rosemary Delores Meeks Lindsey; son, Roland Lamar Meeks; stepson, Spencer Walter Meeks, Jr.; sisters, Lillian Biggins, Evelyn King, and Doris Thurman; and brothers, Roy Lee Davis, Joseph Davis, Melvin Davis, and Earl Davis.

Florestine leaves to cherish her memory four daughters, Francina Meeks of Florida, Andrena Yvette Meeks of Georgia, Sharon Elaine Meeks DeBouse of Georgia, and Cheryl Diane of Florida; three sons,  Ronald C. Meeks (Valentina) of North Carolina, Spencer VanNess Meeks of New York, and  Terry Kertis Meeks of Florida; and a host of grands across four generations, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
