A Celebration of Life:
With profound sadness and bittersweet gratitude, we gather to honor the life of Fred Duncan—a man of strength, resilience, and unwavering faith. His journey was marked by love, loyalty, and a deep commitment to family, friends, and community.
Born in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late Fred Duncan, Sr. and Dorthy Wicker-Duncan, Fred’s life was a testament to courage and perseverance. He graduated from Stanton High School and later moved to Brooklyn, New York, where he pursued his passion for engineering.
Fred earned his degree from New York University and worked as a technical engineer for several companies, including Mobile Oil Company, Gibbs Engineering Construction, Control Data Company, and Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) where he worked the remainder of his career where he retired.
His dedication to his work came at a cost—exposure to toxic chemicals led to serious health complications, ultimately resulting in the loss of both legs. Yet, even in adversity, Fred’s spirit remained unbroken.
Family & Legacy:
Fred was survived by two children, a son Lateek Haggan and a daughter, Ayala Haggan; grandchildren, nephews, nieces and a host of friends. Special acknowledgement to his God - daughter and personal assistant, Cedeila Alford, who was not just a family friend, but was recognized as his spiritual daughter. He returned to Jacksonville in his later years, where he lived a peaceful, retired life. He moved into River City Rehabilitation & Nursing Home, where he continued therapy and receiving health care. He received outstanding care under Hospice through his peaceful transition.
Life Remembered:
Fred life was filled with purpose, faith, and quiet strength. He touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience. Though we mourn his passing, we celebrate the extraordinary life he lived and the memories he leaves behind. “Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
