G. Emory Christopher, the beloved fifth child of the late William Charles Leslie and Elizabeth Coleman Christopher, was born on November 4, 1944, in Jacksonville, Florida. He was reared and educated in Jacksonville, where he laid the foundation for a life marked by hard work, faith, and devotion to family.
Emory was united in marriage to his devoted wife, Doris Christopher, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. A self-made man, he worked as a pool contractor for 30 years. He started out driving cement trucks before being introduced to the pool business, a craft he embraced and grew to love more than life on the road. His skilled hands and dedication were responsible for building many pools across the city, including those at Eugene Butler, Terry Parker, Sandalwood, Lee, Oceanway, and Ribault high schools.
He was a faithful member of Victory and Christ Bible Church, where his commitment to God and service was evident to all who knew him. He was also a huge Florida State Seminoles fan and rarely missed a game, always proud to wear his garnet and gold. In his leisure time, Emory enjoyed reading and playing chess.
Emory departed this life on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Charles Leslie and Elizabeth Coleman Christopher; his brothers, Charles William Christopher, Marvin Christopher, Sam Christopher, and Spencer Christopher; his sisters, Evelyn Christopher and Marion Alston; his daughter, Miranda Thomas; and son, La’Vaughn White.
Emory leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Doris Christopher; his children, Lyndon Faust (Latoyle), Tonya Christopher, Danton Thomas (Cheryl), Tracie Roberts (Derrick), Emory Christopher Jr. (Rita), Maya Turnipseed (Maurice), Marla Goodley (Richard), Gemiel Christopher (Tayler), and Dorian Christopher (Jess); his siblings, Earl Christopher (Gloria), Marva Andrews, Deborah Christopher Thomas, and Claudette Christopher; 44 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; his best friend, Tony Omran (Susan); along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many sorrowing friends.
