Gladys Jones Obituary

Deaconess Gladys Williams Jones was born on April 18, 1935 in Allendale, South Carolina to the late Jimmy and Ada Williams. She was the fifth child born to this union.

Gladys was united in Holy Matrimony to Deacon James Jones on April 25, 1956. They shared 64 years of marriage and the Lord blessed them with nine children of this union.

Gladys retired from Duval County School System with years of dedicated service. She was faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Oakland where she served as a Deaconess.

On Tuesday, August 11, Deaconess Gladys Williams Jones departed this earthly life for her heavenly home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy and Ada Williams; siblings, Nathaniel Williams, Otis Williams, Paul Williams and John Willie Williams; and a daughter, Flossie Jones Cox.

Gladys leaves a legacy to be cherishes by her husband of 64 years, James Jones; children, James Calvin Jones (Lockett), Edith White (Ronnie) of Lawrenceville, GA, Sharon Felton (Bob) of Cocoa Beach, FL, Bobby Jones, Betty Jones, Dorothy Jones of Sanford, FL, Velda Tolbert, Linda Huey (Tony) of Auburn, GA and Jimmie Jones; grandchildren, James Calvin Jones, Dorcus Ethridge (Tylik), Lawrence Golden (Martina), Kortney Mills (Mike), Karla Ferguson, Renzo Sheppard, Cedrick Jones, Brittney White, Tierra Davis (Lenoris), Corey Jones (Katrice), Jarrod Tolbert (Sharron), Shara Tolbert, Tony Huey, Rhonda White, Jasmyne Jones, Cantrece Huey, Jalon Jones, Tracey Merchant, Walter Cox (Amanda), Michael Cox (Stephanie), Wendy Johnson (George); a host of great and great-great grandchildren; siblings, Mozell Williams of Barnswell, SC, Annette Quaintance, Lizzie Mae Williams-Oestricker of Martin, SC, Elease Smokes, Rebecca Wallace of Manhattan, NY, Issac Williams of Martin, SC, Carolyn Badger (Ulyssee) of Martin, SC; sisters-in-law, Johnnie M. Dickens of Washington, DC, Maggie M. Ward of Upper Marlboro, MD and Essie Williams of Philadelphia, PA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
