Gloria Barnett Obituary

Gloria Jamise “Meesie” Young Barnett, age 46, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025. She was born on January 19, 1979, to James and Gloria (Lewis) Young in Jacksonville, Florida.

The youngest of four children, Gloria was a proud graduate of Stanton College Preparatory School, Class of 1997. She went on to build a successful career in technology, most recently serving as Vice President of Information Technology at Optima Health Services, where she was admired for her leadership, expertise, and dedication.

Gloria’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Jasmine Grace Ianthe Barnett (James Michael Johnson); fiancé, LaTroy Hayes; stepson, Jeremy Barnett; ex-husband, Jerry Barnett; her mother, Gloria Lewis- Kelly (Francis); brother, Lloyd Young (Roslyn); and step-sister, Erica Kelly. She leaves behind three cherished grandchildren, Jaiden Malik David Johnson, Jay Oliver Michael Johnson, and James Peterson Richard Johnson, as well as six nieces and nephews, Ricardo Gibbs, Lashawn Ellison (Joseph), Michael Smith Jr., Theron Wingard, Darius Young, and Karston Young.

She will also be deeply missed by her closest cousins, Theodore Rashad Rankin (Shalisa) and April Owens James (Adam); her dearest friend, Christine Wilson and Rahkeisha Daniels and a host of loving cousins and friends who will forever treasure her memory.

Gloria was preceded in death by her father, James Young Jr.; sister, Elisa Young; and brother, James Patrick Young.

Gloria, known affectionately as “Meesie,” will be remembered for her unwavering love of family, her kind spirit, and the legacy of strength and compassion she leaves behind.
