Gloria Dean Washington was born on March 3, 1936, to the late Wilson Armstrong and Walta Mae Armstrong in Jacksonville, Florida. She graduated from New Stanton Senior High in 1954.
In 1955 she married her one and only husband Larry Washington (div.), and they happily brought into the world Valerie Lewis, Angela Banner, and Roslyn McCoy.
After working many years at Kozy Korner, she became a dutiful employee of Blue Cross Blue Shield for twenty-six years until her retirement in 1998. After retirement, she continued to give back as a volunteer with UF Health for over twenty years. Gloria was a faithful member of Woodlawn Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Trustee Board and an active member of the Seniors and Retirees Organization.
Affectionately called “Granny” by many, Gloria Dean Washington went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 3, 2025. She was preceded in death by her father, Wilson Armstrong; mother, Walta Mae Armstrong; and beloved sister, Gwendolyn Mathis. She was a force to be reckoned with–always giving, always speaking her mind, and always opening her home to those who needed it.
Gloria leaves behind to cherish her legacy, her children, Valerie Lewis, Angela Banner and Roslyn McCoy; grandchildren, Alicia Lewis, Eric Lewis, Darrian Banner, Bryan Banner (Patrina), Travis Banner, Kevin McCoy, Jr. (Breanna) and Justin McCoy; cherished as a son, Kamal Luqman, Sr.; great-grandchildren, Jalicia Lewis, Kalena Luqman, Kamal Luqman, Jr., Emani Lewis, Darria Banner, Darrian Banner, II, Mia Banner, Darrian Banner, Jr., Bryan Banner, Jr., Treasure Webb, Di’ontae Johnson, Ellie Frazier, Makayla McCoy, Korey McCoy and Kyrie McCoy; niece, Dennine White (Julian); nephew, Nathan Mathis (Ruby); cousin, Betty Stephens; close friend, Addie Ford; and a host of neighbors and devoted friends.
